Obituary

Margueritte Moore Jordan, 88, of Lynchburg and formerly of Westview Circle, Thomas Terrace, was called to be with her Lord on Tuesday, April 25, 2017, at VCU Hospital. She was the widow of Walter Murrell Jordan who preceded her in death in 1997.

Born in Appomattox County, Va., on Sunday, April 7, 1929, she was a daughter of the late Marjorie Martin Moore and Louis Moore. She was member of Chestnut Hill United Methodist Church for over 50 years. She was involved in many activities, especially in the UMW "Friendly Circle" with her fellow sisters. Margueritte also volunteered for many years with Mary Spadlin in the church office and served as a Sunday School teacher, on the Administrative Board, and in later years on the Visitation Committee to nursing homes which she really enjoyed and received more happiness than she gave.

She was a graduate of Appomattox High School and attended Phillips Business College. She was employed by Craddock and Terry Shoe Company for over forty years until her retirement in 1988.

She is survived by two daughters, Karen J. Bohn of Sykesville, Maryland and Katherine J. Allen and husband, Joey of Evington; one brother, Louis Walker Moore and wife, Anne of Appomattox; four sisters, Jessalyn M. Burcher, Sue M. Campbell both of Appomattox, Faye M. Weston of Bullock, N. C., and Eva Celeste Moore of Mineral ; three grandchildren, Karl Bohn of Sykesville, Maryland, Suzanne Marie Allen, and Samantha Jordan Allen both of Evington; numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews; and also good neighbors and friends, Dorothy Jordan, Gloria and Sammy Carter, J. T. and Rick McNeely, Angela Churchill, Brenda and Bruce Stratton; and good friends for 63 years, Connie and Gene Harris; and her church family which was always a blessing to her.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, Thomas Carlton Moore and an infant brother, and a sister, Annie Rebecca M. Covington.

A memorial service officiated by Rev. Nolan Crowder will be held 11 a.m., Saturday, April 29, 2017, in Chestnut Hill United Methodist Church, 4660 Fort Ave., Lynchburg. The family will receive friends following the service.

A committal service will be held 2 p.m., Saturday, April 29, 2017, in Mt. Comfort United Methodist Church Cemetery, 3189 Lime Plant Rd, Appomattox, VA.
