Mable Doss Smith, 86, of Rocky Farm Rd., Appomattox, was called home to be with her Lord on Friday, January 24, 2014 in Virginia Baptist Hospital. She was the wife of the late James Elmo Smith.
Born in Appomattox County, on March 23, 1927, she was a daughter of the late Gwendolyn Smoot and Aubrey Layfette Doss. She was a member of Reedy Spring Baptist Church and retired from Amelia Dress Company. Mable was known by many as a dear friend, a great seamstress and wonderful baker. She will be remembered as wonderful, loving, and caring to her whole family.
She is survived by two sons, James E. Smith, Jr. and wife Peggy and Robert A. Smith and wife Johanna; four grandchildren, Chris Smith (Audrey), Drew Smith, Dana Woody (David), and Jeremy Smith (Felicia); a sister, Peggy D. Watson; three brothers, Joe Doss and wife Ruth, Douglas Doss and wife Louise, and Gene Doss and wife Helen all of Appomattox and numerous nieces and nephews. She was a beloved Gigi and Granny Mae to Trey, LeAnn, Jordan, Christopher, Lucas, Lainey, Lauryn, Liza, Jordan and Taylor. She was preceded in death by one sister and seven brothers.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m., Monday, at Robinson Funeral Home by the Rev. John Muth and the Rev. Dr. Tony Brooks with burial following in Liberty Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Sunday, January 26, 2014, from 2 until 4:00 p.m. and other times at her residence.
