Mabel Wilkes Simpson
Mabel Wilkes Simpson, 85, of Red Fields Road, Appomattox, died Sunday morning, April 5, 2009 at her residence. She was the wife of the late Johnny Carter Simpson.
Born in Appomattox County, March 8, 1924, she was the daughter of the late Alma Mae Wooldridge and Lacy Morton Wilkes. Mabel was a member of Liberty Baptist Church, was a watchmaker, a jeweler, and owner and operator of Wilkes Jewelers.
Mabel is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Wayne and Peggie Simpson; a daughter and son-in-law, Kitty and Michael Farris, all of Appomattox; four grandchildren, Jason Todd Farris, Christopher Neal Simpson, Ashley Christine Farris, Lori Beth Simpson, and her fiancé, Christopher Anderson; a step son, William C. "Bill" Simpson, and his wife Janis, of Chatham; a foster brother, Alfred McGuire, and his wife, Shelby, of Appomattox; her caregivers, Ella Godsey, Barbara Hunter, Esther Braxton, Inez Goin, and Tammy Godsey; numerous nieces and nephews; and her cat, "Old Yellow". She was preceded in death by a brother, John H. Wilkes, and two step sons, Mac Simpson and Bobby Simpson.
Funeral services will be held 3 PM, Thursday, April 9, 2009, at Liberty Baptist Church with the Rev. Daniel Dockery, and the Rev. Rusty Small officiating. Burial will follow in Liberty Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 PM, Wednesday April 8, 2009, at Robinson Funeral Home, and other times at the residence.
