Melvin Ramsey Shelton, Jr., 55, of New Chapel Road, Concord, died Friday, July 10, 2015, in Lynchburg General Hospital. He was the husband of Tammy Booth Shelton.
Born in Altavista, Va., on November 22, 1959, he was a son of Rebecca Pickral and Melvin Ramsey Shelton, Sr. of Gretna. Ramsey loved family, friends, bluegrass music, farming and the outdoors.
In addition to his wife and parents he is survived by a son, Patrick C. Shelton of Concord; a brother, Steve Shelton of Lynchburg; two sisters, Sharon S. Barringer and husband, Eric of Rustburg and Ellen S. Hillsman of Lynchburg and her friend, Kenneth Hankins; his mother-in-law, Sally S. Booth of Concord; nieces and nephews, Kimberly H. (Spencer) Cox, Teri (Danny) Ciafardini, Michael Barringer, Amanda H. (Frank) Gowell; Philip (Monika) Barringer, Rachel Hillsman; two great nephews, Noah Ciafardini and Owen Cox; and a large extended family of aunts, uncles, and cousins.
A funeral service will be held 3:00 p.m., Sunday, July 12, 2015, at New Chapel Baptist Church by Elder Troy Simpson and Rev. Tim Dooley. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church one hour before the service.
