Melvin Dallas Moore, 80, of Stonewall Road, Concord, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 19, in Virginia Baptist Hospital. Born in Appomattox County, August 8, 1929, he was a son of the late Jesse Melvin and Nannie Jennings Moore. Dallas was a retired Deputy for the Appomattox County Sheriff's Department, but never gave up his love for operating heavy construction equipment and mowing the lawn with his Dixie Chopper. He was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 52 years, Bethel Bondurant Moore. In addition to his wife, he is survived by three children, W. Gail Morykon and her husband, John, of Richmond, Melvin Thomas (Tommy) Moore and his wife, Lisa, of Concord, and Robert Alan Moore and his fiancée, Tammy, of Concord; three grandchildren, Chelsea Moore, Amanda Moore, and Brittany Moore; three brothers, J. Lyle Moore and Wanda Lawhorne, Bobby E. Moore and wife, Pat, all of Concord, and Russell W. Moore and wife, Alice, of Appomattox; a sister, Helen M. Gaulden of Concord; and a sister-in-law, Virginia J. Moore of Appomattox. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Charlie L. Moore and W. Frank Moore.
Funeral services will be held 3:00 p.m., Friday, August 21, 2009, at Bethel United Methodist Church, 7200 block of Stonewall Road, Concord with Pastor Randy Mills and the Rev. David Camden officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to, as well as immediately following, the service.
