Appomattox: Lyle Jacob Van Auken passed away at his home on Sunday, August 13, 2006.
Born in Hampton Township, Sussex County, NJ, July 29, 1916, he was a son of the late Jacob Lyle Van Auken and Mildred Ann L'Homadieu Van Auken. He was the husband of the late Blanche Mae Hendershot Van Auken and the father of the late Thomas J. Van Auken of Bethlehem, PA.
Surviving are a son, Richard L. Van Auken (Elaine) of Advance, NC; a daughter, Judith Lynn Lemon (Bob) of Sumter, SC; one sister, Ruth Castonquay of Blairstown, NJ; eight grandchildren, Jennifer Reper of Branchville, NJ, Suzanne VanSickle of Lafayette, NJ, Pamela Coakley of Harrisburg, PA, Greg Van Auken of Wake Forest, NC, Teresa Bobo of Advance, NC, Kim Embardino of Easton, PA, Kirsten Van Auken and Kyle Van Auken of Kansas and nine great grandchildren.
Lyle and his wife gave up dairy farming in 1969 in New Jersey. He then worked for Blue Ridge Lumber Co. in Blairstown, NJ for 11 years before retiring to Appomattox, VA.
A private service was held for immediate family. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
Lyle's family wishes to extend their deepest appreciation to his friends and neighbors during his times of need.
