"Granny" Lucille Ryan Christian
God opened His arms and beckoned one of His children, "Granny" Lucille Ryan Christian on October 6, 2007. She was born on May 11, 1918, lived in Pamplin, and was the wife of the late William David Christian.
Lucille was the daughter of the late Myrtle Novell Ryan and a child of the late Horatio Madison Ryan and her late step-mother, Mary Myrtle Leola Morris Ryan. Mrs. Christian was also preceded in death by her daughter Amy Christian Glenn; her step-sister Ida Puckett; her step brothers Clarence O. Ryan, Richard Samuel Ryan, and Pete Ryan; and her good friend Lennie Gordon.
"Granny" is survived by four children, Iris Mann and her husband Wayne, of Appomattox; Nancy Jamerson and her husband Pete of Appomattox; Tish Inge of Pamplin; and William "Billy" David Christian, Jr., of Florida. She is survived by two step-sisters, Christine Ryan Ruble and her husband Eddie of Lynchburg; Victoria Ryan Jamerson of Appomattox; sister-in-laws, Thelma Ryan of Lynchburg and Tabby Ryan of Yorktown. She leaves eleven grandchildren and eighteen great-grandchildren who will forever remember their beloved "Granny".
The family wishes to thank Mrs. Christian's loving friend and caregiver, Susan Wright. Additionally, hospice nurses Alice Powell, Paula Hicks, and Shana Davis for their care and concern.
Mrs. Christian was a member of Elon Baptist Church and a diligent employee for forty years at Amelia Dress Company, where she retired. Her family remembers her as making the very best of any situation. What a positive and inspirational person she has been throughout her entire life. She was a talented song writer and poet; she composed over forty Christian focused writings. She loved all people and those that met her loved her too. All of her life she helped anyone that needed her help. It didn't matter who the person was or their ethnicity, or the circumstance. "Granny" trusted the Lord with all of her heart and her life has been a tribute of God's love and His promise of eternal life.
Funeral Services will be held 2:00 pm, Tuesday, October 9, 2007 at Robinson Funeral Home, by the Rev. Steve Tyree. Burial will follow at Old Herman Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at Robinson Funeral Home, Monday, from 7-8:30 p.m. and at other times at the residence of Pete and Nancy Jamerson, 655 Acorn Drive Appomattox.
