Obituary

Louise Lewis Martin, 93, of Willow Oak Road, Appomattox, died Monday October 5, 2009, at her home. She was the wife of the late Edward Carter Martin.
Born in Appomattox County, on September 18, 1916, she was a daughter of the late John Lloyd and Myrtle Jennings Lewis. Louise was a member of Memorial United Methodist Church where she served as a member of the choir for 77 years and was a member of the United Methodist Women. She was a graduate of Longwood College, a retired teacher and coach. She was a member of the Lynchburg Road Runners, the Lynchburg Sports Hall of Fame, the Virginia High School League Hall of Fame and was nominated for the National Coach of the Year. She was also a member of the Retired Teachers Association, the Patrick Henry Auxiliary, and the American Legion Auxiliary.
She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Mary and Ronnie Torrence of Concord and Lucy and Ernest Harris of Appomattox; five grandsons and six great grandchildren, Matthew and Charity Torrence and their children, Adam, Tyler, and Summer of Concord; Jonathan and Holly Torrence and their children, Lilly and Elam; Nathan and Sarah Torrence and their daughter, Ella all of Lynchburg; Douglas Harris; and Raymond and Krystan Harris all of Appomattox; and numerous nieces and nephews including a special niece that lived with her for a number of years, Ann Tomlin and her husband, Don of Pamplin.
She was preceded in death by two grandchildren, Timothy and Sarah Torrence; a brother, Lloyd Nollie Lewis and a sister, Olive Pearce.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 am, Wednesday, October 7, 2009 at Memorial United Methodist Church by the Rev. Bruce Johnson. The burial will follow in the Martin Family Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at Robinson Funeral Home today (Tuesday) from 7-8:30 pm and other times at the residence.
