Loretta Mayberry, 79, of Narrow Passage Road, Appomattox, died Tuesday, March 31, 2015, in Appomattox Health and Rehabilitation Center. She was the wife of the late Russell Elwood Mayberry, Sr.
Born in Bedford County, October 31 1935, she was a daughter of the late Ruth Allen Young and Alvin Kenneth Goggin, Sr. Loretta was a member of Central Baptist Church where she served as Choir Director for 27 years and very active in V.B.S, she loved gardening, her pets, bird watching and she loved singing with the Ageless Wonders when she was able. She retired from Thomasville where she worked as a Machinist.
She is survived by three sons, Russell "Rusty" E. Mayberry, Jr and wife, Robin of Appomattox, Timmy Mayberry and Kim Allen of Julian, WV, Roger Mayberry and wife, Cindy of Spout Spring; two daughters, Glenda Martin and husband, Lewis of Appomattox, Teresa Goin and husband, Tommy of Appomattox; one brother, Alvin Kenneth Goggin, Jr and wife, Eileen of Appomattox; two sisters, Peggy Strong and husband, Johnny of Mineral, VA and Cynthia Goggin of Rustburg; eight grandchildren, one great-granddaughter; one aunt, Alma Y. Overstreet of Rice, VA.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Linda G. Holmes.
Funeral Services will be held 2 p.m., Saturday, April 4, 2015 at Robinson Funeral Home by the Rev. Jeff Worley. Burial will follow in Central Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 7:30 p.m., Friday, April 3, 2015 at Robinson Funeral Home and other times at the residence of Teresa and Tommy Goin, Narrow Passage Road, Appomattox.
