Linwood Earl Ewers of Williamsburg, formerly of Concord went home to be with the Lord on July 21, 2005.
Born in Lynchburg on April 2, 1938, he was the son of John Bibb Ewers and Juanita Holt Ewers, both deceased.
He was proud to have served in the VA Army National Guard for 32 years. He joined at the age of 17 and served in the 29th Infantry Division. After serving as an infantryman for approximately 19 years he moved to the food service 329th Support Group in Virginia Beach and served for approximately 13 years, during which time he managed numerous kitchens and included in his travels he served in Cairo, Egypt.
Linwood is survived by his wife, Joyce Honig Ewers of Williamsburg and a son, Karl Brett Ewers, USAF, New Mexico and preceded in death by a daughter Wanda LaTrelle Ewers. He is also survived by six grandchildren Jason Briggs, Eric Briggs, Patrick Ewers, Kathryn Ewers, Kayla Ewers and Madelyn Ewers; a sister Connie Garrett and her husband Wilson of Goode; a brother, John Wyndol Ewers and his wife Phyllis of Madison Heights, and special friends Ed and Kathryne Cosby and Oscar T. Smith. Two brothers preceded him in death, Arnold B. Ewers and Merwyn A. Ewers.
Funeral services will be conducted Sunday July 24, 2005 at 2:00 P.M. at Bible Baptist Church by the Rev. Robert E. Lee. Burial will follow in Hebron Baptist Church Cemetery with Military Rites accorded by American Legion Post #16.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home today from 5-7:00 P.M.
