Lewis Ryland Elder, 89, of Spout Spring passed away on Friday, January 19, 2024, at Viginia Baptist Hospital. He was the husband of the late Vadie Dixon Elder.

Born in Lynchburg, on September 7, 1934, he was the son of the late Mary Guthrie and Lewis Rufus Elder. He proudly served his country for 22 ½ years as a member of the United States Air Force. He was a veteran of the Vietnam war.

He is survived by three children Vickie Full and husband, Paul of Chesterfield, Breck Elder and wife, Cathy of Appomattox, and Bryan Elder of Spout Spring; one grandchild, Alison Elder Williams and husband, Jake of Appomattox; two siblings, Michael Elder and wife, Lynn of NC and Nancy Wilcox and husband, Buddy of Appomattox; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by five brothers, Allen, Charles "Dick", Jesse, Jimmy, and Steven Elder; three sisters, Alice Marie Elder, Mary Atkins, and Barbara Mason; and a special nephew, Wayne Frank.

A funeral service will be held 2 pm Wednesday, January 24, 2024, at Glory Baptist Church with Pastor Chris Brooks officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 7-8:30 pm Tuesday, January 23 at Robinson Funeral Home.
