Obituary

Lester Irby Wingfield, 97, of First Street, Appomattox, died Friday, October 15, 2010, at the Appomattox Health and Rehabilitation Center. He was the loving and devoted husband of Flossie Bradshaw Goodrich Wingfield for 70 years.

Born in Appomattox County on July 11, 1913, he was a son of the late Martha Jane Godsey Wingfield and the late Charles Andrew Wingfield. Lester was a retired painter and served his country during World War II as a member of the U.S. Army. He was a life long member of Memorial United Methodist Church having served many years on the Board of Stewards. He played semi-pro baseball for 16 years, playing two years in the Skyline League. Lester was a member of the U.T.C. for over 50 years.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a brother, Herman Wingfield of Pamplin, and many devoted nieces and nephews.

Lester was preceded in death by five brothers and six sisters.

A funeral service will be held 2:00PM, Monday, October 18, 2010, in Memorial United Methodist Church, by the Rev. Russell Cheatham, with burial to follow in Old Herman Methodist Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Sunday, October 17, 2010, at Robinson Funeral Home, from 4:00 to 6:00 PM, and other times at his residence.
