Leslie Kyle Coleman, 96, of Appomattox, died Thursday, April 13, 2017. He was the husband of the late Roberta Robertson Coleman for 68 years.
Born in Appomattox, January 21, 1921, he was a son of the late Lillie Kyle and Leslie Anderson Coleman. Kyle was a member of Grace Hills Baptist Church. He was the owner of Kyle Coleman Plumbing and Electrical Company. Prior to owning his own business, Mr. Coleman worked in the service department at Poe Hardware for 39 years. Kyle was a proud World War II U.S. Army veteran and served in the 1306th General Service Regiment Combat Engineers under General George Patton in Europe and General Douglas McArthur in the Pacific. He earned four Bronze Battle Stars and fought on the front line for 281 days. He was faithful to fly his flag each day. Kyle so loved his country.
He is survived by his two children, Warren K. Coleman and wife, Judi of Richmond and Joan C. Wooldridge and husband, Gary of Forest; five grandchildren, Kyle and Melissa Coleman, David and Laura Coleman, Katie Coleman, Eric and Mindy Wooldridge, and Lauren and Charlie Morris; five great-grandchildren, June, Benjamin, Huxton, Kayla and Mikayla; and he was looking forward to the arrival of three additional great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Eulelia R. Evans and husband, Bernard; numerous nieces and nephews; and a close friend David McClain.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Buford Coleman and Abbitt Coleman; and two sisters, Hazel Coleman and Ruby Marshall.
A funeral service will be held 2 p.m., Monday, April 17, 2017 at Robinson Funeral Home with Rev. Ron Moore officiating. Burial will follow in Liberty Cemetery with military rites accorded by American Legion Post #104 and VFW #9855 combined honor guard.
The family will receive friends from 5 until 7 p.m., Sunday, April 16, 2017 at Robinson Funeral Home.
