Leonard Christian Garrett, 97, of Wildway Rd., Appomattox, died Saturday, April 23, 2011 in the Appomattox Health and Rehabilitation Center. He was the husband of the late Emma Robertson Garrett.

Born in Appomattox County, on October 25, 1913, he was a son of the late William Fletcher and Queen Victoria Harris Garrett. Leonard was a lifetime and the oldest active member of New Hope Baptist Church and a member of the Local Hunters Hunt Club. He was a retired State Forester and Dog Warden for Appomattox County. He was an avid outdoorsman and loved farming and music.

He is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Bobby and Janice Garrett of Appomattox; three daughters and sons-in-laws, Betty G. and Todd Craft, Geralynn Garrett all of Appomattox, and Gloria G. and Frank Leveque of Richmond; a brother, Nathan Garrett; a sister, Emma G. Norcross; a daughter-in-law, Delores W. Garrett all of Appomattox; sister-in-law, Florence Kruer and husband, George of Milton, DE; nine grandchildren; six great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a son, Teddy Garrett; two brothers, Berkley and Alfred Garrett; and a sister, Grace Lucado.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, April 26, 2011, in New Hope Baptist Church by the Rev. Ronnie Rogers. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the church today, Monday, April 25, from 7-8:30 p.m. and other times at the home of Betty Craft.
