Leona Overstreet English, 92, went to be with the Lord, on Monday, October 16, 2023. She was the wife of the late John Clarence English.

Born in Union Hall, Virginia, on August 3, 1931, she was a daughter of the late Nellie Mae Walker and John Harrison Overstreet. She retired in 2000 from the Franklin County School system in housekeeping at the high school. Leona attended Free Saints Holiness Church in Union Hall.

She is survived by a daughter, Sheryl English Burke; two grandchildren, Sam Burke and wife, Kelly and Sandy McBride and husband, Steve; five great-grandchildren, Katie Hill and husband, Joel, Emily McBride, Stephen McBride, Jr. and fiancée, Heather, Erin Daloni and husband, Jack, and Samuel Burke, Jr.; and six great-great-grandchildren, Mason Hill, Jackson Hill, Grayson Hill, Waylon McBride, Ashlynn McBride, and Joan Daloni; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by a daughter, Wanda English Law; a son-in-law, Jim Burke; and 14 brothers and sisters, Belva Barbour, Hampton Overstreet, Georgia Boothe, Gordan Overstreet, John Overstreet, Mary McCrickard, Aaron Overstreet, Era Poisson, Algie Heath, Richard Overstreet, Gladys Johnson, Rebecca Landsdown, Betty Martin, and Walker Overstreet.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., on Friday, October 20, 2023, at Liberty Baptist Church by Rev. Dr. Rusty Small. The burial will follow at 3 p.m., in Franklin Memorial Park, 21440 Virgil Goode Hwy., Rocky Mount, VA 24184.

The family will receive friends at Liberty Baptist Church one hour prior to the service.
