Leah Hatton Beasley Carter, 80, of Wildway Rd., died Tuesday, April 1, 2008 in Lynchburg General Hospital. She was the loving wife of Willis H. Carter for 61 years.
Born in Buckingham County, July 7, 1927, she was a daughter of the late Aurelius Robert Beasley and Sara Blanche Stanley Beasley. Leah was a member of New Hope Baptist Church where she was a member of the Fidelis Sunday School class and worked with the nursery and preschool for many years. In 1989, she retired from Amelia Dress Company.
In addition to her husband she is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Albert H. and Joan Carter of Appomattox; a daughter, Karen Faye Carter of Mechanicsville; three grandchildren, Jason Harrington Carter and wife, Heather, Jennifer Reneé Horton and husband, Kevin, and Jared Daniel Carter; four great grandchildren, Adam, Nathalie, and Nathan Carter, and Jacob Horton; and two sisters, Sadie B. Shrader of Petersburg and Mary B. Thomas of Georgia.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Vida and two brothers, Robert and Jacob Beasley.
Funeral services will be held 3:00 p.m., Friday, April 4, 2008 in New Hope Baptist Church by the Rev. Ronnie Rogers. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service and other times at the residence.
