Lawrence G. "Larry" Haley, 60, died on Veteran's Day, November 11, 2006 due to pancreatic and liver cancer. Born in Lynchburg, March 1, 1946 and raised in Appomattox he was the third child to the late Robert and Goldie Haley. Larry attended Bluefield College for 2 years before enlisting in the United States Navy where he served 4 years. After being turned down to fight with American solders in Vietnam he was honorably discharged and moved to Orlando, FL. While in Orlando, he joined the City of Orlando Police Department where he retired a Patrolman after 25 years. Upon retirement Larry worked at Boggy Creek Golf course doing various jobs. For him this was a way to play golf for free and have a good time.
Larry is preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Goldie Haley, and a brother, Robert "Bobby" Haley, Jr.
He is survived by one brother and sister-in-law, Wallace and Mary Jane Haley; niece and her husband, Judy and Jimmy Harris all of Appomattox; niece and her husband, Martha Haley and Paul Bowling, their children, Eric and Haley all of Ferrum and great-nephew and his wife, Greg and Katherine Ayers of Concord.
The family would like to thank Brad Paris, Hospice of the Comforter and the friends who have assisted Larry during his illness with prayers, calls, and visits.
There will be a service of remembrance at Robinson Funeral Home, Friday, November 17, 2006 at 11:00 am.
The family will receive friends at the home of Wallace and Mary Jane Haley, Church St., Appomattox.
In lieu of flowers the family asks for donations to be made to the Hospice of Comforter, 480 W. Central Parkway, Altamonte Springs, FL 32714 or to the hospice services of your choice.
