Katherine McCormick Carter, 88, of Hummingbird Lane, Spout Spring, went to be with the Lord Wednesday, August 19, 2009, in the Appomattox Health and Rehabilitation Center. She was the wife of the late Frank Wesley (Bo) Carter.
Born in Appomattox County, November 30, 1920, she was a daughter of the late Queen Victoria Almond McCormick and Lewis Saunders McCormick, Sr. She was a member of New Hope Baptist Church and retired after 40 years of service with Appomattox Garment Co.
Katherine is survived by a daughter, Barbara Carter Layne of Appomattox; a brother, Curtis Wiley McCormick and wife, Evelyn; two sisters, Mackey Clapp and husband, Earl and Mina M. Williams all of Lynchburg; nine grandchildren, Clyde Mayberry, Jr., Kristie Bogan, Crystal Smith, Karen Cyrus, Robert Shipp, Clyde (Bubba) Shipp, II, Sylvia Carter, Forest Gregory Carter, and Sharon Luther and 17 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Wanda C. Shipp and two sons, Leonard Wayne (Sonny) Carter and Eddie Lewis Carter.
Graveside funeral services will be held 11:00 am, Saturday, August 22, 2009, at New Hope Baptist Church Cemetery by the Rev. J. D. Mayberry.
The family will receive friends at Robinson Funeral Home Friday, Aug. 21, 2009, from 7-8:00 pm.
The family would like to thank granddaughters, Karen Cyrus and Kristie Bogan, for the wonderful care they gave to Katherine.
