Julian Burge Hesson, 89, of Gladstone, passed Wednesday, May 22, 2013, in Fairmont Crossing Health and Rehab Center. Born in Nelson County, on February 10, 1924, he was a son of the late John A. Hesson and the late Dundee Martin Hesson.
Julian served on active duty as a Marine in World War II on Okinawa. He retired after many years of service with the C and O Railway as a yard master at the Gladstone Yard. He was a member and former deacon of Gladstone Memorial Baptist Church and a member of the Clinton (formerly John Ancell) Masonic Lodge A. F. and A.M. and the Nelson County Historical Society.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Jean Akers Hesson; his son, Julian Grey Hesson; his daughter, Julia Hesson Walker; his brothers, John, Albert, Ralph, and Warren; and a sister, Ruth.
Julian is survived by his daughter-in-law, Bonnie Elaine Hesson; six grandchildren, Lauren Lowe and husband John of Westminster, Maryland, Brandon Hesson and wife Renee of Cambridge, Maryland, Diana Hesson of Whittman, Maryland, Marshall Hesson of Powell, Wyoming, Sarah Walker of Tallahassee, Florida, and Scott Bladen and wife Jamie of Lynchburg; a son-in-law, Eric Walker of Tallahassee, Florida; a sister-in-law, Joan Akers Rothgeb and husband Edward of Shipman; nine great-grandchildren and seven nieces and nephews.
A graveside funeral service will be held at Amherst Cemetery on Tuesday, May 28, at 2:00 p.m. with Dr. James Fetty officiating.
