Obituary
Judy Burrell Conner, 77, a lifelong resident of Appomattox and long-time supporter of historical preservation, died peacefully on October 17, 2016 at her home in Appomattox.
Judy was born in Owens, Va., on August 17, 1939, a daughter of the late Herbert McCall Burrell and the late Irma Richardson Burrell Smith. Judy was married to her high school sweetheart, James A. "Buddy" Conner, Jr., in 1957. One of her passions was collecting and refinishing antique toys and furniture. She also enjoyed vacationing with family and friends at her Lake Gaston log home that she helped design and build, where she was the consummate host and there were never too many people visiting.
She was a loving wife and caring mother and grandmother. One of the many joys in her life was spending time with family, in particular the grandkids, who affectionately called her "JuJu". They were a joy to her as she was to them. As one of her grandchildren said, "She was a great grandmother and a better friend."
She was a devoted Christian as a member of Piney Ridge United Methodist Church and she worked daily to spread the Gospel.
Survivors include her husband of nearly 60 years, James A. "Buddy" Conner, Jr.; a daughter, Cheryl C. Reynolds and her husband, Mike, of Forest; a son, Darrell Conner and his wife, Carol, of Fairfax; three grandchildren, Jesse and Jacob Reynolds of Forest, and Ian Conner of Fairfax; a brother, Clyde Burrell and wife, Doris; and a sister-in-law, Elsie Burrell all of Appomattox; and many other beloved family and friends.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Edith B. Nash and a brother, Edward T. Burrell.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, October 20, 2016, at Robinson Funeral Home by the Rev. Herndon Jeffreys. Burial will follow in the Piney Ridge United Methodist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday, October 19 from 7-8:30 p.m. and other times at the residence.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Appomattox County Historical Society, PO Box 253, Appomattox, VA 24522.
