Joyce Ann Johnson, 73, of Cub Creek Rd, Appomattox, died Monday evening March 20, 2017 at Centra Health Care Facility. She was the wife of Marvin L. Johnson.

Mrs. Johnson was born in Powhatan Virginia July 9, 1943 a daughter of the late Harvey Louis and Jessalyn Mae Simpson. She attended La Plata High School, La Plata, MD. Joyce's first profession was a Hair Stylist. Later in life she returned to school and became a licensed Pharmacist Technician; that achievement was something her children were very proud of. She was an avid reader, loved crossword puzzles and tending to her garden. In the later years of her life she worshiped at the Bible Baptist Church, Appomattox, VA.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by five children, Joseph Harvey Wolff and his wife Regina, Spring Hill, Fla.; Tina Marie Schmidt and her husband Loren, Lutz, Fla.; Albert J. Gardiner and his wife Susan, Marietta, Ga.; William E. Gardiner, ("Billy" said to be Joyce's favorite) King George, Va.; Kathleen M. McCoy and her husband William, Locust Grove, Va., three siblings, Alice Juanita Adams, Farnham, Va.; Billie Jane Watson, Lignum, Va. and William Harvey Simpson, Appomattox, Va; and grandchildren, (first born) Joyce V. Taylor, William T., Julie E., Samuel J., Abigail, Logan, Christina, Zach, Geoff and Richard Gardiner, as well as four great grandchildren.

Preceding her in death are her son, Richard L. Gardiner; brother, Norman Eugene Tinnell as well as sisters, Myrtle Virginia Wolff and Dorothy Louise Farrell.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m., Friday, March 24, 2017, at Robinson Funeral Home by Rev. Robert E. Lee. Burial will follow in Liberty Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 7 until 8:30 p.m., Thursday at the funeral home.
