Joseph Henry Stanley, 80, of Lynchburg, died Monday, November 22, 2010, in Guggenheimer Nursing Home. He was the husband of the late Doris Driskill Stanley.
Born in Prince Edward County, Virginia, on January 30, 1930, he was a son of the late Herbert Christian and Viola Coleman Stanley. Mr. Stanley was a US Navy veteran serving in the Korean War and was a manager at Herncall's Dry Cleaners. He was a member of Memorial Christian Church and a former member of the American Legion Post #16.
He is survived by three children and their spouses, Robert Kent and Barbara Stanley of Lynchburg, Peggie Sue and Wayne Simpson of Appomattox, and Jo Anne and Bill Burnette of Lynchburg; six grandchildren, Christopher Simpson and wife, Jodi of Appomattox, Brandon Stanley and wife, Brooke of Concord, Lori Beth Anderson and husband, Chris of Fredericksburg, R. Scott Stanley, W. Travis Burnette, and Carley Jo Burnette all of Lynchburg; one great-granddaughter, Kaleigh Stanley; and a sister, Lucille S. Dowdy of Farmville.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Herbert and Robert (Bob) Stanley and two sisters, Ruth Williams and Grace Morris.
Graveside funeral will be held at 3:00 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 27, 2010, in Liberty Cemetery by the Rev. Dr. Tom Bryant. The family will receive friends at Robinson Funeral Home from 2:00 – 2:45 p.m. on Saturday and other times at the children's residences.
The family wishes to acknowledge their thankfulness to the staff and caregivers of Guggenheimer Nursing Home for the care and loving concern given to their father.
At this time of Thanksgiving we are thankful to God for having given us such loving parents who guided us in a righteous life.
