Joseph Roger Sargent, 77, of Capewood Drive, Huddleston, died Sunday, October 15, 2017 at Lynchburg General Hospital. He was the loving husband of Jane Heath Sargent.

Born in West VA, September 29, 1940, he was a son of the late Dovie Strouth and Joseph Elijah Sargent. Joe served his country in the United States Army. He graduated from the University of Maryland, College Park, and attended George Washington University where he worked on his Masters in Forensics. He loved God, his country and was an avid fisherman and hunter. Joe retired from Montgomery County Police department as Lieutenant in 1988 and was a member of the Masonic Lodge.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Sheila Dawn Sedgewick and husband, Rob of Hilton Head, SC, and Sheri Lynn Schaefer and husband, Joel of Frederick, MD; a step-daughter, Cristy Moore and husband, Todd of Forest; three granddaughters, Sofie Sedgewick, Elli Schaefer and Tarah Schaefer; and two step-grandchildren, Landon Moore and Seth Bryant; one sister, Dovie Mills and husband, John; one brother, Henry Sargent and wife, Betty; one sister-in-law, Ruth Sargent, and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by three brothers Harvey, David and Lloyd Sargent, and a stepson, Jamie Bryant.

A funeral service will be held, 2 p.m., Friday, October 20, 2017, at Robinson Funeral Home with Pastor Jeff Worley officiating. Burial will follow at Buckingham Community Cemetery.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service on Friday at Robinson Funeral Home and on Wednesday and Thursday, at the home of Cristy and Todd Moore, Forest, VA.
