Appomattox: Joseph Robert Megginson, Sr., 82, of 4299 Liberty Chapel Road, died Saturday, August 19, 2006, in Lynchburg General Hospital. He was the husband of Belle Martin Reynolds Megginson. His first wife of 51 years, Ethelyne Torrence Megginson, preceded him in death.
Born in Appomattox County, December 3, 1923, he was a son of the late John Kirkpatrick Megginson and the late Elsie Morgan Megginson. Joe was the owner of Joseph R. Megginson Trucking Company. He was a lifetime member of Liberty Chapel Baptist Church, where he served as Chairman of the Deacons, Sunday School teacher, and choir member.
In addition to his wife he is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Joseph R.,Jr. and Cynthia R. Megginson of Cypress, TX; a daughter and son-in-law, Josie M. and Rick Butler of Appomattox; four grandchildren, Jessica Cottar and her husband Shae of Baytown, TX, Jonathan K. Megginson of Cypress, TX, Victoria (Tori) B. Goodman and her husband Travis of Appomattox, and William J. (B.J.) Butler of Appomattox; three great-grandchildren, Aidan, Olivia, and Evan Cottar; two sisters, Jacqueline M. Boroughs and her husband Boyce of Live Oak, FL, and Dorothy M. Harris and her husband Crawford of Appomattox. His third sister, Elizabeth M. Burke, preceded him in death.
He is also survived by four step-children and their spouses, Lonnie C., Jr. and Anne Reynolds, Delores R. and H. T. Cheatham, Debra R. and James Chumley, and Michael R. and Cheryl Reynolds; eight step-grandchildren, Chris and Gina Reynolds, Stacie and Brad Bell, Ashley and Taylor Adams, Tim and Heather Cheatham, Rodney and Leslie Cheatham, Craig Washburn, Jesse Reynolds, and Jacob Reynolds; eight step-great grandchildren, Brandon, Taylar, Lauren, and Cody Reynolds, Brayden Bell, Jack, Parker, and Eric Cheatham.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM, Wednesday, August 23, 2006 in Liberty Chapel Baptist Church. The Rev. James N. Williams and Dr. Donald Fowler will conduct the service. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends Tuesday from 7:00 – 8:30 PM at Robinson Funeral Home and other times at his residence.
