John Daniel Whorley, 69, of Old Courthouse Road, died Monday, June 20, 2016 at the VA Medical Center in Durham. He was the loving husband of Joyce Rosser Whorley.

Born in Buckingham County, December 23, 1946 he was a son of the late Hazel Edwards and John I. Whorley. John was a member of New Hope Baptist Church and retired from Lynchburg Foundry Archer Creek.

In addition to his wife he is survived by a son, Robert D. Whorley of Appomattox; one brother, Roy Whorley and wife Maggie of Vera; one sister, Mary Berger and husband, Gary of Cumberland; numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by two sisters, Christine Jamerson and Peggy Geagley.

A Funeral Service will be held 2 p.m., Friday, June 24, 2016 at New Hope Baptist Church with the Rev. Ron Moore officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Military rites accorded by American Legion Post #104 and VFW #9855 combined honor guard. Following the service, the family will receive friends at New Hope
Baptist Church, and other times at the residence.
