Obituary

John Dixon Wheeler, Jr., 93 of Fairfax, died Wednesday, June 8, 2011, in Fairfax Hospital. He was the husband of Odell Evans Wheeler.

Born May 5, 1918, in Concord, he was a son of the late Augusta Watkins and John D. Wheeler, Sr. He was a graduate of George Washington University with a degree in economics and had retired as an analyst with the Department of Navy. John was a member of Bethany United Methodist Church and served his country during WW II as a member of the U.S. Army.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by their daughter, Shirley Maiden and her husband, Robert, Tallahassee, FL; three grandchildren, Rachel Wells and her husband, Byron, Robert W. Maiden and John L. Maiden and his wife, Lauren; five great grandchildren, Emily, Grace, Morgan, Grant and Reagan; one sister, Roberta Adams and her husband, Charles: Lynchburg: two brothers, Dennis Wilson Wheeler, Lynchburg, and Royal S. Wheeler and his wife, Jean, Blacksburg.

Funeral services will be held 4:00 pm, Sunday, June 12, 2011 at Bethany UMC by the Rev. Ron Litten, with burial in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends in the church fellowship hall immediately following the burial.
