On Wednesday, May 11, 2011, John "Phil" Reed of Appomattox died at Lynchburg General Hospital.
Mr. Reed was born in Crown Point, NY to the late George and Helen Reed on November 11, 1918. He was preceded by his first wife, Sarah Hugus Reed and his second wife, Muriel "Kit" Reed, and his sister, Doris Edwards. He is survived by his two sons, Paul W. Reed, Carefree, AZ, and Douglas G. Reed, Mars Hill, NC, and grandchildren Paul W. Reed, II and Sarah A. Reed.
Attended Purdue University then worked with Curtis Wright Engine during WWII developing the engines for the B-29 bomber. After the war he worked for the Ford Motor Company then had a long career in machine tool sales. He owned and operated the Paterson Brass Mfg. Company before his retirement to Appomattox in the early 1990's. He loved to repair golf clubs and other broken things. He was active in raising funds for Mended Hearts and the Ann Wilcox Memorial.
Burial will be in the family plot at Fairview Cemetery, Crown Point, NY.
