Obituary

John Anthony Masserini, III, 68, of Purdum Mill Road, Appomattox; a devoted father, avid outdoorsman, and a loving husband to his wife Laurie Marie Masserini, died in his home, February 8, 2011.

John was born in Trenton, NJ, July 26, 1942, son of the late Christine Sereni and Joseph Masserini. For 25 years John served on the East Windsor Township, NJ Police Department where he was also a Firearms Instructor. He retired as Chief of Police of Hightstown, NJ and served for two years as a Deputy with the Appomattox County Sheriff's Department. He also served his country in the US Coast Guard. John was a life member of the Police Benevolent Association, a member of the American Legion, and the N.R.A. He owned and operated the "The Outpost" in Spout Spring for many years.

In addition to his wife, Laurie, John is survived by his children, John and wife, Lucy Masserini of Allentown, NJ; Brad Byrne of Richmond, Linda Masserini of Greensboro, NC, mother of children Joe & wife, Leanne Masserini of Ruckersville; Denise and husband, Clay Burton of Roy, WA; Jennifer and husband, David Knowlton of Holly Springs, NC and Nicole Masserini of Greensboro, NC.

John is also survived by eleven grandchildren, A.J., Kevin, Elizabeth, Joey, Isabella, Allyson, Holly, Robert, Megan, John Lucas, Cristopher, one great-grandchild, Kevin Jr.; a sister, JoAnn Maisto and husband, Bucky; relatives, Aunt Louise and Uncle Richard Eck of Trenton, NJ, Aunt Gloria and Uncle Sam Vagett, Uncle Albert Masserini, and Aunt Bea Capadici; niece, Kristin Scaccetti-Gershengorn; brother-in-law, Ricky James Vetick and family of East Windsor Township, NJ as well as many cousins and dear friends.

A memorial service will be held at 11:30 a.m., Saturday February 12, 2011 at Robinson Funeral Home. The visitation will be from 11:00 -11:30 a.m. and immediately following the service until 1:00 p.m. Military Rites will be accorded by American Legion Post #104 and VFW #9585 combined Honor Guard.
