John Thomas Hunter, Jr., 76, of Appomattox passed away on Thursday, August 14, 2025. He was the husband of Debra Ward Hunter for 47 years.

Born in Lynchburg on February 13, 1949, he was the son of the late John Thomas Hunter, Sr. and Frances Snell Hunter.  He was a member of Concord Presbyterian Church where he served as Clerk. John T. received his Bachelor's degree from Virginia Tech and his Master's from Shenandoah University. He taught agriculture and carpentry at Randolph Henry High School for 30 years before retiring. John T. loved nature, hunting, cooking, boating, gardening, farming, the Virginia Tech Hokies, friends, and his family.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two children, Courtney Hunter Godsey and husband, Michael, and Alex Hunter; two grandchildren, Beckett Hunter Godsey and Briggs Michael Godsey; two sisters, Margaret H. Conner and husband, Lee and Anne H. Dixon and husband, John.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, James D. "Jimmy" Hunter and Frank E. "Frankie" Hunter.

The family will receive friends and family at the home of John T.  and Debra, 6978 Wheelers Spring Rd, Appomattox on Friday, August 15 from 5:00 – 7:00pm.

A graveside service will be held 11 am, Saturday, August 16, 2025, at Concord Presbyterian Church Cemetery, 5539 Wheelers Spring Rd, Appomattox, with Rev. Anthony Reeves officiating.
