John Bernard Gascoyne, 80, of Oakville Rd., Appomattox, died Monday, December 10, 2007. He was the husband of Helga Ritter Gascoyne.
Born in Washington, DC, October 7, 1927, he was a son of the late Roddy and Elizabeth Sanders Gascoyne. John received his Masters degree in Public Health from the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill. He was a retired administrator for the Department of Health, Education, and Welfare, an Army Veteran serving in World War II, a member of Mount Comfort United Methodist Church and a former member of the Moose Lodge.
In addition to his wife he is survived by two children, David R. Gascoyne and his wife, Nadie of Florida and Suzanne Gascoyne of Oregon; two step-children, Christine Lyttle and Wayne Kelly both of Florida and seven grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, Daniel Gascoyne.
A celebration of life service will be held 11:00 a.m., Saturday, December 15, at Mount Comfort United Methodist Church by the Rev. Robert Thorne. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
