Obituary

John Fedison was born the eldest son of William and Mary Fedison on June 12, 1915, in Newark, NJ, and died Thursday, April 5, 2007 in Lynchburg. He and his wife, the former Dorothy Romaine, had been married for 66 years.
He graduated from Hillside High School, in Hillside, NJ, where he was active in the school orchestra, band and student government. He majored in Accounting at Rutgers University where he received his Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration.
In his professional career he had a long term association with a number of wholesale drug companies. He worked with McKesson and Robbins, Inc., located in Newark, NJ, for 10 years in various capacities including assistant credit manager and accountant. He then joined D. Kaltman and Co., Inc., in Jersey City, NJ, where he was employed for 16 years. He began as an Office Manager and Accountant and then became Vice-President and General Manager of three different divisions located first in Freehold, the Bronx, and finally Jersey City. His final position at Kaltman was Supervisor of Operations and Accountant to all Cash and Carry Divisions. While in this position he helped set-up and open divisions in Baltimore and Long Island.
In 1963, he took a position as comptroller for Bergen Drug Co. in Hackensack, NJ. When Bergen Drug merged with Brunswig Drug he was transferred to California as National Accountant. He was promoted to Director of Corporate Disbursements and served in that position until he retired in 1980, from the Bergen Brunswig Corporation and moved to Appomattox, VA.
He was a former member of the Elks Club and Vice-President of the East Bergen and Rockland Counties National Accountants Association. He is a former officer and was a member of the Appomattox Lions Club since 1981 until he and his wife moved to Westminister-Cantebury in 2005. He has been an active member of Appomattox Court House Presbyterian Church since moving to Appomattox.
He became a member in 1980 of the Roanoke Chapter of SCORE (Senior Core of Retired Executives). In 1983, he was responsible for the organization of the Greater Lynchburg Chapter of SCORE which was sponsored by the Small Business Administration and elected its first chairman.
He is survived by his wife Dorothy and son, Dr. John M. Fedison (Ginny) of Appomattox; three grandsons, John K. Fedison (Carolyn) and James W. Fedison (Ellen) of Roanoke, and David W. Fedison of Miami, FL; and five great-grandchildren, John Tyler Fedison, Haley Joelle Fedison, Kayla Elaine Fedison, Ryan James Fedison and Maximo Angeles Fedison. He was pre-deceased by both his parents and his younger brothers Michael and Nicholas.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m., Saturday, April 7, 2007 in the Appomattox Court House Presbyterian Church by the Rev. Cameron Smith and the Rev. Sherwood Smith. Interment will follow in Liberty Cemetery.
Following the graveside service the family will return to the church for lunch and a time of fellowship with friends and family and at other times at the home of John and Ginny Fedison, 364 Golfers Circle, Appomattox.
