John "Jack" Dennis, Jr., 74 of Heritage Trail, Appomattox and formerly of Monmouth Beach, NJ, died peacefully on Saturday, October 29, 2011 at his residence.

Born in Long Branch, New Jersey, on October 12, 1937, he was the son of the late John Dennis Sr. and Agnes Weaver Dennis. He retired from Builder's General Supply Co. in Little Silver NJ as a yardman and truck driver.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Betty Ann Major Dennis; three daughters, Linda Dennis of Wall, NJ, Lisa Romano and husband, Gregory and Laura Dennis all of Appomattox; a son, Christopher John Dennis of Fredericksburg. He is also survived by four granddaughters who lovingly called him "Pop-Pop", Victoria Romano, Sophia Romano, Nikki Stout, and Jerri Ann Gizzarelli; a great-grandson, Aiden John Wright; and his cat, Sonny and two dogs, Frankie and Spike. He was also "Poppy" to his granddogs, Roxy and Gracie.

In addition to his parents he was predeceased by a sister, Lorraine Orndorff.

The family would also like to express their appreciation to the nurses of Centra Health Hospice of Farmville, Dana, Valerie, Denise, and Rose for their care and compassion.

In lieu of flowers the family request that memorial donations be made to Centra Health Hospice of the Hills, 713 Oak Street, Farmville, VA 23901.

A memorial service will be held 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, November 2, 2011, at Robinson Funeral Home by the Rev. Steve Flowers and the Rev. Russell Cheatham. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service.
