John Edwin "Jack" Cox, Jr., 82, of Swansea, Mass., died Saturday, November 22, 2008 in Massachusetts General Hospital, in Boston. He was the husband of Joice Christian Cox to whom he had been married for the past 56 years.
Born in Fall River, MA. he was a son of the late John E. Cox, Sr. and Florence Turner Cox. He lived in Fall River before moving to Swansea in 1952.
Mr. Cox was a graduate of Tabor Academy class of 1944, Massachusetts Maritime Academy class of 1947 and Yale University class of 1953. He served in the United States Navy and the United States Naval Reserve from 1947 to 1961. He was an Engineering Consultant and the owner and manager of John E. Cox Associates. He was a former member of the Fall River Rotary, the Swansea Lyons Club, Fall River Country Club, New Bedford Country Club and the Quequechan Club. He enjoyed golfing, sailing, traveling gardening, and most of all spending time with his family.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by three daughters; Cynthia C. Gilliam and her husband, P.R., of Swansea, Deborah J. Doherty and her husband, Stephen, of Appomattox and Linda E. Cox of Swansea; one son John E. Cox, III and his wife, Sunny, of Rome, GA.; two brothers, R. Arnold Cox and Richard D. Cox; nine grandchildren, Victoria, Christian, John, Catherine, Haley, Meredith, Alex, Jade and Samanda; one great-granddaughter, Bella; three sisters-in-law, Virginia C. Koos, Bess C. Thompson and Katherine C. Byerly, and many nieces and nephews.
Graveside funeral services were held 11:00 am, Wednesday, November 26, 2008, in the Christian Family Cemetery, by the Rev. Robert Thorne.
