Jimmy T. Wooten
Jimmy T. (Leader of the Band) Wooten, 82, of Appomattox died Friday, December 27, 2013, in Lynchburg General Hospital.
He is survived by his wife, Bonnie B. Wooten; daughters, Linda Landry and husband Chris and Lisa O'Brien and husband Roger; grandchildren, Tiffany Wilkerson and husband Matt, Christina Ulip and husband Thomas, Hannah Peters and husband Josh, Tamara Picou and husband Steven, Heather Cagle and husband Jordan and Whitney O'Brien; great grandchildren, Christopher, Abby and Jessi Wilkerson, Tommy Ulip, Addie and Eli Peters, Colton Travers, Jaden Galliano, Zoe Cagle, Mason and Olivia Picou; a sister, Jereline Stanley and husband Gene; niece and nephew, Phyllis Bell and Mike Stanley and their families; mother-in-law, Louise Baldridge; a special sister-in-law, Linda Fee; and a brother-in-law, Johnny Boone. He was preceded in death by his beloved son, Mark James Wooten and grandson, Doug Davis.
Born in Crossett, Arkansas, on August 9, 1931, he was the son of the late Ruth (Big Mama) Wells and Floyd Wooten. He returned many times to the place he called home. He started his music career at a young age, entertaining the troops while he served in the U.S. Army. He crooned and jammed as a lead singer and a guitarist all over California before settling down in Virginia. With his cb handle as Country he found striped bass and his place at Buggs Island Lake. He was president of the Local Hunters Hunt Club where he hunted, cooked and enjoyed his friends and family. Pop as he was lovingly called by his family will be missed by all who knew him.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, December 29, 2013 from 12:00 until 6:00 p.m., at the home of Lisa and Roger O'Brien, 2269 Piney Mountain Rd., Appomattox. 434-352-5889.
