Obituary

Jesse Howard Johnson, Sr., 95, of Appomattox, died Sunday morning, March 16, 2014 in Lynchburg General Hospital. He was the husband of the late Eliza May Richardson Johnson.

Born September 26, 1918 in Appomattox Co., he was a son of the late Wesley Norman and Allie May Mann Johnson. He served his country as a member of the US Army during WWII and was a retired truck driver having worked for Hudgins Plate Co. and Holts Feed Store. He was a member of Heart of Worship Ministries, formerly Church of God of Prophecy, in Appomattox.

He is survived by two sons, Jesse Howard (Buck) Johnson, Jr. and wife, Shirley and David Ray Johnson and wife, Ella all of Appomattox; and a daughter, Margie J. Mayberry and husband, Charlie (Frog) of Concord; five grandchildren, Jesse H. (Bo) Johnson, III and fiancée, Kimberly McCormick of Lynchburg, Angela Johnson, Michelle Johnson both of Appomattox, Jeffrey Bryan Mayberry and wife, Sally of Concord, David Johnson, Jr. and Kathie of Fairfax; four great-grandchildren, T. J. Mann, Bridget Mayberry, Damian Mayberry all of Appomattox, and Katelynn Taylor Mayberry of Concord; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by two sons, Howard and James Richard Johnson and eight brothers and sisters.

A funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, March 19, 2014, at Robinson Funeral Home by the Rev. Fredrick Bonds with burial following in Liberty Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at Robinson Funeral Home Tuesday, March 18, 2014, from 7-8:30.
