Jerold "Jerry" Breen Nares, 82, of Concord, passed away on May 10, 2023, at Guggenheimer Health and Rehab. He was the husband of Barbara Martin Nares.

Born in Corning, N.Y. on January 10, 1941, he was the son of the late Harry H. Nares and Ethel Lewis Nares. Jerry served his country from 1961 to 1966 in the U.S. Air Force. He continued serving in his community as a member of the Concord Rescue Squad for 14 years.  Jerry also served as Director of the Special Education Ministry at Thomas Road Baptist Church in the late '80s, and was active in various ministries through the years.  He was an avid reader, loved animals, and never knew a stranger.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughter, Rebekah Suzanne Nares Johnson of Amherst; stepson, Stephen Ray Williams of Richmond; three grandchildren, Arianna White and fiancé, Jayquine Bryant, Jacqueline Smith and husband, Christopher, and Jordan White; and two great-grandchildren, Adio Bryant and Jinora Bryant.

He was preceded in death by two sisters, Nan and Linda; and two brothers, Gary and Jim.

A memorial service will be held 6 p.m., Wednesday, May 17, 2023, at The Church 24/7 with Pastor Nato Tunu officiating.  The address is 20190 Timberlake Rd, Lynchburg, VA (behind Starbucks).  A potluck style reception will be held afterwards at the church.
