Appomattox: Jennie Droog Coleman, 97, died Wednesday, June 13, 2007 in the Appomattox Health and Rehabilition Center. She was the wife of the late Onnie Herman Coleman who died May 5, 1964.
Born Easter Sunday, March 27, 1910, in Ouderkerka/d Yssel Netherlands Europe, she was the daughter of the late Jacob and Johanna VanHerk Droog. Mrs. Coleman at the time of her death was the oldest member of Reedy Springs Baptist Church, a member of the Young Hearts Club, Spout Spring AARP, and the Cold Home Program. She was retired employee of Lynchburg Hosiery Mill, the Appomattox Garment Company and the Virginia Commission on Aging.
She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Warren A. and Ruth Ann Coleman of Spout Spring; a daughter and son-in-law, Evelyn C. and John Howell of Evington; six granddaughters, Wanda Coleman (Glenn Hayes), Johanna C. Smith (Robert), Martha G. Moore (Fleming ), Lisa C. Plummer (Matt), Bernadine Garrett, and Christie G. Russell (Ryan); 15 great grandchildren and 15 great-great grandchildren. She is also survived by two sisters-in-law, Mattie E. Droog of Forest and Isabel C. Starnes of South Boston and 13 nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by four brothers, Kors, Jacob, Teunis, Adrian Droog, a sister, Marie Nichols and her father and mother-in-law, Thomas D. and Mattie Wilkerson Coleman.
Funeral services will be held 7:00 pm, Friday, June 15, 2007 at Robinson Funeral Home by the Rev. John Muth and Stewart Watson. The family will receive friends following the service and other times at the home of Ruth Ann and Warren Coleman.
A graveside funeral service will be held 10:00 am, Saturday, June 16, 2007 in Fort Hill Memorial Park.
