Janie Tabor Reynolds of Chesterfield, Virginia departed this life on December 21, 2013. Janie was born August 17, 1939 in Campbell County, Virginia and was the daughter of Amos W. and Edythe T. Tabor who came east from Burkes Garden, Virginia to raise their growing family. She is survived by her husband of 54 years, James Leon Reynolds, and one daughter, Joy Lynn.
Also surviving Mrs. Reynolds are four sisters: Sallie Tabor Fariss, Lois Tabor Merkey and husband Gerald, and Frances Tabor Doss all of Lynchburg; Em¬mogene Tabor Trent and husband Edward, and Doris Tabor Clark and husband Robert all of Gladys; also her brother-in-law, Lawrence Reynolds and wife Mar¬garet Ann of Richmond. Included are many nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, of whom she was very fond.
Mrs. Reynolds is predeceased by two sisters, Louise T. McKinney Saunders and Annalee Tabor Schiek; two brothers, J.D. Tabor and Robert W. Tabor; and her son-in-law, Dr. Thomas W. Gregory.
Mrs. Reynolds served 36 years of service in the Chesterfield County Post Office, starting in 1963 when it was located in the back of an old country store and even-tually becoming its first female rural letter carrier. She was an active member of the Virginia Rural Letter Carriers' Association and served as its President, 1988-89. She received both the State and National Outstanding Rural Letter Carrier Award and was recognized by Chesterfield County Board of Supervisors for her service to the community.
Mrs. Reynolds was a 50 year member of Beulah United Methodist Church and an active volunteer there. After her retirement, she also gave freely of her time as a volunteer at the Shepard's Center of Chesterfield.
Funeral services will be held December 27, 2013 at 2 pm at the chapel of the Robinson Funeral Home, Appomattox, Virginia followed by interment in a family plot at the Rebecca Cemetery, Appomattox.
Also, a memorial service celebrating Janie's life will be held on December 30, 2013 at 11 am at Beulah United Methodist Church, 6930 Hopkins Road, North Chesterfield, Virginia.
