Obituary
Janie Grey Baldwin Layne, 85, of Wheelers Spring Road, Pamplin, went to be with her Lord and Savior Wednesday, April 1, 2015 at her residence. She was the loving wife of the late Carol Dixon Layne.
Born in Pamplin, July 25, 1929, she was a daughter of the late Eunice Grey Wilkerson and Mack Glover Baldwin. Janie Grey was a member of Spring Creek Baptist Church and attended Elon Baptist Church. She loved attending senior luncheons at Elon Baptist Church and Piney Ridge United Methodist Church every month and also enjoyed visiting the shut-ins regularly. Janie Grey retired as a Teachers Aid with Appomattox County Public Schools.
She is survived by five children, Gale Torrence and husband, Kenny of Forest, J.C. Layne of Forest, Sandra Clapp and husband, Gary of Appomattox, Leon Layne and wife, Christy of Coleman Falls, Kevin Layne and wife, Sheila of Appomattox; two brothers, William Glover Baldwin, Sr., of Phenix, Kenneth M. Baldwin and wife, Doris of Lynchburg; eight grandchildren, Chad Layne and wife, Melisha, Katie M. Layne, Brittney Layne Reeves and husband, Chad, Ross Layne and wife, Connie Jo, Michael R. Torrence and wife, Leasa, Christy Torrence and husband, Seth, Kirstin Eubank and husband, David and Alexa Gray Layne; thirteen great-grandchildren; extended family members, special friends, neighbors and church family.
She was preceded in death by a brother, W. Eugene Baldwin and a sister, Dorothy Kowalsky.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m., Saturday, April 4, 2015, at Elon Baptist Church, Pamplin by the Rev. David Sexton. Burial will follow in Spring Creek Baptist Church Cemetery, Cullen. The family will receive friends from 7 until 8:30p.m., Friday, April 3, 2015, at Robinson Funeral Home, Appomattox, and other times at the residence.
