Janet Rooker Smith, 75, of Cawthorne St., Appomattox, died Wednesday, April 3, 2013 in Virginia Baptist Hospital. She was the wife of William Carlton Smith, Sr.

Born in Norlina, NC, on July 15, 1937, she was a daughter of the late Selma Shearin and Guy Rooker. She was a member of Rocks Baptist Church and received a B.A. in English from Francis Marion College.

In addition to her husband Carlton, she is survived by three sons, William (Bill) Carlton Smith, Jr. and his wife, Rhonda of Clinton, NC, Louis Bryan Smith and wife, Kim, and Ashley Heath Smith and wife, Nancy, all of Wilmington, NC; eight grandchildren, Stephanie Hull and her husband, Mark, Michelle Smith, Rebecca Smith, Shannon Smith, Jacob Smith, Lauren Smith, Jared Smith, and Tyler Smith; and two sisters, Gracie Tingle of Richmond and Pat Callahan of Winder, GA. She was preceded in death by two sisters and one brother.

A graveside funeral service will be held 4:00 pm, Friday, April 5, 2013 in New Hope Baptist Church Cemetery by Rev. Ron Moore and Rev. Lyn Anderson. The family will receive friends in the church fellowship hall following the service.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorials be made to the Rocks Baptist Church Family Life Center, 3393 Rocks Church Rd., Pamplin, VA 23958.
