Jane Franklin Lyon, 80, of Concord, died Friday, January 20, 2017, at her home. She was the wife of the late Melvin G. Lyon for 56 years.

Born in Concord, Va., on February 12, 1936, she was a daughter of the late Marie Lucille Jones and George Frost Franklin. She was a member of Bethlehem United Methodist Church and a graduate of Concord High School. Jane retired from Babcock and Wilcox and was a former member of Falling River Country Club. She had a love for sports and truly loved her community and friends.

She is survived by a sister-in-law, Helen Austin Franklin; two nieces, Wanda Kaye Franklin and Donna Leigh Franklin; a nephew, Thomas M. "Tom" Franklin, Jr. all of Concord; great-nieces, Jennifer Beth Jones and husband, Ronald Wayne of Spout Spring and Miranda Nicole Franklin of Lynchburg; great-nephew, Thomas M. "Mackie" Franklin, III of Lynchburg; great-great-nieces, Alexis Faith Jones, Grace Marie Jones, Addison Hope Jones; great-great-nephew, Jacob Easton Jones all of Spout Spring; and her beloved cats, Boots and Pooboo.

She was preceded in death by three brothers, George David Franklin, James Douglas Franklin, and Thomas Malcolm Franklin, Sr.

A funeral service will be held at 3 p.m., Tuesday, January 24, 2017, at Bethlehem United Methodist Church by Rev. Dan Dibble. Burial will follow in Concord Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service and other times at her residence.
