Rev. James Norton (Jimmy) Williams Jr, 73, of 1093 Lyle Thomas Road, died, Thursday August 2, 2007. He is survived by his beloved wife of fifty years, Helen Crider Williams.
Born in Marion County, South Carolina, October 6, 1933, Jimmy was the son of the late James Norton Williams Sr. and Druzilla Brooks Williams. He was a member of the Appomattox Ministerial Association, James River Baptist Association, attended North Greenville College and Furman University. As a minister of the Gospel for fifty years, he pastored Willow Creek Baptist Church, Florence, S.C., Collins Creek Baptist Church, Murrells Inlet, S.C., Killian Baptist Church, Columbia S.C., Northgate Baptist Church, Orangeburg, S.C., Liberty Chapel Baptist Church, Appomattox, Gladstone memorial Baptist Church in Nelson Co. After his retireme nt in October 2004 he continued to serve Gladstone Memorial Baptist Church.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by one daughter Cheryl Kaye Goff and her husband, Jonathan of Appomattox; one sister Jewel Williams York and her husband Kinch of Kingston, TN; four grandchildren Cooper Delaney Martin, Barrett Adair Martin, Katherine Frances Goff, and Palmer James Goff; and one son-in-law Dean Martin of Spout Spring.
He was preceded in death by his daughter Reneé Williams Martin.
Funeral services will be held 3:00 p.m. Sunday, August 5, 2007, at Liberty Chapel Baptist Church by the Reverend Glynn Coleman, Reverend Jimmy Dunn, and Reverend Willie Green, with burial to follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends tonight (Saturday) from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. at the funeral home and other times at the residence.
