James Melvin Tweedy, 72, of Spout Spring, died on Monday, December 8, 2008, in Lynchburg General Hospital. He was the husband of Wanda Morris Tweedy for 43 years.
Born In Appomattox Co., August 31, 1936, he was a son of the late John Allen Tweedy, Sr. and Ruth Cawthorne Tweedy. James was a member of Reedy Spring Baptist Church. He retired from Areva, formerly Framatome ANP, after 30 years of service and served in the U. S. Army. He loved to hunt, fish, and play golf, hobbies he devoted himself to as long as his health allowed.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a brother, John Allen Tweedy, Jr. and his wife, Dolly of Appomattox; a sister, Elizabeth (Betty Sue) Collins of Lynchburg; numerous nieces and nephews including special nephews, Al Reynolds and his wife, Agnes of Spout Spring and Charles Allen Tweedy of Concord; sister-in-law, Judy M. Bonsall and husband, Ron; a special brother-in-law, Richard Ray Morris all of Appomattox; and his Siamese "pals" Max and Zeki.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Rosser and Lewis Tweedy and two sisters, Dorothy Reynolds and Catherine McQueen.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 pm, Thursday, December 11 at Reedy Spring Baptist Church by the Rev. John Muth and the Rev. Tom Barker. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with military rites accorded by American Legion Post #104 and VFW #9855 combined honor guard.
The family will receive friends at the residence, 4768 Salem Rd., Spout Spring.
