James Ellsworth Soper, 81, of Mount Rush Hwy, Dillwyn, died Sunday, April 8, 2018, in Lynchburg General Hospital. He was the husband of Patricia Dale Carter Soper.
Born in Washington, D.C., on September 15, 1936, he was a son of the late Mildred Estelle Matthews and James Compton Ellsworth Soper. He was a US Army veteran serving in the Vietnam War and a retired restaurant manager.
In addition to his wife he is survived by five children, Laurie Drake, Caroline Drake Amsel both of Virginia, Melissa Jo Soper Morrison of Appomattox, Christopher Adam Soper of Dillwyn, and Sean Daniel Soper and Monica of Churchton, Md.; fourteen grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Tennille Lynn Soper.
A funeral service will be held 12:30 p.m., Friday, April 13, 2018, at Virginia Veterans Cemetery at Amelia.
The family will receive friends at Robinson Funeral Home on Thursday, April 12 from 6 until 8 p.m.
