James (Jim) Edward Martin, 93, of Concord, died Saturday April 12, 2008 in Lynchburg General Hospital. He was the loving husband of Avis Mills Martin.
Born in Campbell County, July 24, 1914, he was the son of the late James Wellington Martin and Nannie Inge Martin. Jim was a member of Bethlehem United Methodist Church, a retired employee of the Soil Conservation Service and an Air Force Veteran of WWII.
In addition to his wife he is survived by one son, Douglas Edward Martin and his wife Teresa of Richmond; two daughters, Violet S. Roberts and husband Fred of Lynchburg, Glinda S. Powell of Portsmouth; one brother, Charles H. Martin and wife Gladys of Lynchburg; one sister, Irene M. Jones and husband William (Bill) of Lynchburg; six grandchildren, Amy and Michael Lopez, Lisa Roberts, Stephanie and Dennis Blankenship, Yancey Powell, Ashley Martin, and Jonathan Martin; great-grandchildren, Sophia R. Lopez, and Gabriel M. Lopez; sister-in-law, Ethel Martin of Richmond.
He was preceded in death by brothers Frank Martin, William (Billy) Martin, Eugene (Jack) Martin, and sister Nell M. Williams.
Funeral Services will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 15, 2008, at Bethlehem United Methodist Church by the Rev. Tim Earnhardt with burial to follow in Concord Cemetery with Military Rites accorded by American Legion 104 VFW 8955 Combined Honor Guard.
The family will receive friends at Robinson Funeral Home Monday, April 14, 2008, from 7-8:30 p.m. and other times at the residence.
