James Douglas "Jimmy" Marshall, Sr., 77, of Appomattox, a loving husband, father and grandfather died Friday, January 15, 2010 at his residence. He was the devoted husband of 53 years to Mary Ellen Moore Marshall.
Born in Appomattox County, March 10, 1932, he was a son of the late Atwell Dewitt Marshall and Margaret Caldwell Marshall. Jimmy was a member of Mt. Comfort United Methodist Church, the Gideons International, Transplants Living to Care and the Woodmen of the World. Jimmy recently served as the driver for Bus # 31 for the Appomattox County School System. He retired after 35 years of service with Babcock and Wilcox Nuclear Plant, and he proudly served his country in the United States Navy.
In addition to his wife he is survived by a son, James Douglas "Doug" Marshall, Jr., and his wife Rita Ferguson, of Appomattox; a daughter Mary Katharine "Kathy" Marshall of Richmond; a sister, Dorothy Jordan and her husband, Malcolm of Phenix; and a grandson, Adam Douglas Marshall; three nieces Margaret Maddox, JoAnne Nash and Lorie Hartless.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00am, Monday, January 18, 2010 at Mt. Comfort United Methodist Church by the Rev. Robert Thorne with burial to follow in the church cemetery. Military rites accorded by American Legion Post # 104 and VFW# 9855 combined honor guard.
The family will receive friends at Mt. Comfort United Methodist Church (today) Sunday, January 17, 2010 from 3-5:00 pm and other times at the residence.
