Master Sgt. James Rhea Harris, 60, of Salem Rd., Spout Spring, passed away October 22, 2013. He was the husband of Ellen Ann Ennis Harris.
James was born January 25, 1953 in Jonesville, VA a son of the late Georgia Rhea Hyden Harris and Charles Marion Harris.
Master Sgt. Harris retired from the U.S. Marine Corps in 1991 after 20 years of service. He was a veteran of Vietnam and the Persian Gulf War. He retired from the United States Postal Service after 18 years due to his health. James was a member of Monroe Masonic Lodge #301 A.F. & A.M., 32° KCCH Scottish Rite of Lynchburg, DAV, American Legion Post #104, VFW, and the Order of Eastern Star Chapter #10 of Appomattox.
In addition to his wife, Ellen, he is survived by three daughters, Melissa A. Barker and husband, Leon of Lynchburg; Pamela R. Harris of Spout Spring; Jamie L. Ferguson and husband, Marvis, Sr. of Appomattox; eight grandchildren, Ashley Harris, Rebecca Baldwin, Jonathon Baldwin, Cameron Harris, Marvis Ferguson, Jr., Lillian Ferguson, Mackenzie Harris and Aaliyah Ferguson; two sisters, Janet Waffle of West Virginia and Judy Crabtree of Jonesville, VA; five brothers, Jack Harris, John Harris, Jerry Harris and Jeff Harris all of Jonesville, Joe Harris of Kingsport, TN and two aunts, Anne Seabolt and Bobbie Hyden.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Rebecca Jean Bridwell.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 P.M. Saturday October 26, 2013 at Robinson Funeral Home by the Rev. Russell Cheatham
Burial with Military Honors accorded by C Company 4th Combat Engineer Battalion, U.S. Marine Corps, will follow in Liberty Cemetery.
A Masonic Service will be held at 7:00 P.M. Friday night October 25 at the funeral home. The family will receive friends following the Masonic Service.
