Obituary

James Alfred Gowin, 89, of Pumping Station Road, passed away Sunday, March 26, 2017 at Lynchburg General Hospital. He was the loving husband of Barbara Layne Gowin for over 66 years.

Born in Buckingham, December 21, 1927, he was a son of the late Lucy Franklin and Richard Ayers Gowin. James was a member of New Hope Baptist Church where he served as a former Deacon and retired from Trans Continental Pipeline.

In addition to his wife, he is survived a daughter, Cathy Gowin Blanks and husband, Aubrey of Appomattox; one sister, Betty Lewis; and one granddaughter, Jill Blackwell.

He was preceded in death by a son, Ronald "Ronnie" Gowin; a grandson, Steven Brent Blackwell; four brothers, Major Gowin, Wilson Gowin, Earl Gowin, Henderson "Dolly" Gowin; four sisters, Mary O'Brien, Evelyn Pruett, Ruby Paulette and Lula Almond.

A graveside service will be held 2 pm., Tuesday, March 28, 2017 at New Hope Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. Ron Moore officiating.
