James Carroll Chaney, 86, of Berry Lane, Appomattox, died Friday, October 26, 2018, in Salem Veterans Hospital. He was the loving husband of Kathryn Rice McIver Chaney for 34 years.

Born in Findley, Okla., on November 4, 1931, he was a son of the late Boyd Chaney and the late Linnie Massey Taylor. He was a member of the Belton Masonic Lodge #166 A.F. & A. M. in Belton, Texas since 1959, a member of the Eastern Star Chapter #10 of Appomattox, and the Scottish Rite.

Mr. Chaney was a US Army veteran; serving two tours in Korea and one in Vietnam. He received the Silver Star and four Purple Hearts for his service to our country. After serving 21 years in the US Army, he worked for the Department of Engineering and Housing at Fort Hood Texas for 20 years.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by three sons, James E. Chaney of Belton, Texas, Allen Chaney of Calif., and William McIver of Forest, Va.; three daughters, Carol C. Taylor and Kenneth of Belton, Texas, Debbie C. Grant of Belton, Texas, and Tiffany M. Evans of Forest, Va.; 12 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A funeral service with Masonic rites will be held 11 a.m., Wednesday, October 31, 2018, at Robinson Funeral Home by Mr. Steve Doss, Principal of Desmond T. Doss Christian Academy. Entombment will follow at 1 p.m., in Ft. Hill in The View of Eagle Mausoleum with Military rites accorded by The Virginia Army National Guard Funeral Honors Team.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service.
