Obituary
Appomattox: James Albert (Jim) Beaty, Jr., 77, died Monday, August 20, 2007, in Lynchburg General Hospital. He was the husband of Helen Mae Poe Beaty.
Born in Montgomery, Alabama, April 3, 1930, he was the son of Maude Fuqua Beaty of Birmingham, Al and the late James A. Beaty, Sr. Jim was a graduate of Auburn Polytechnic Institute, a veteran of the US Army Reserves and a member of Liberty Baptist Church where he served in many capacities including Deacon, Chairman of Liberty Cemetery Committee, Children's Sunday School Teacher, Parsonage Committee and Buildings and Grounds Committee. In 1966, Jim moved to Appomattox to manage the family business, Poe Hardware.
In addition to his wife and mother he is survived by four children, Annette B. and Donald Williams, Virginia B. and Ray Tweedy, Carole B. and Neale Foxwell all of Appomattox and James A., III and Margarita Beaty of Cumming, GA; nine grandchildren, Shannon W. Banton and husband Phillip, Samuel L. Williams and wife Jennifer all of Appomattox, Jennifer T. Peterson and husband Zach of Tucson, AZ, Michael A. Tweedy and his wife Kristi, Meghan R. Foxwell, Autumn M. Foxwell, Joseph S. Foxwell, II all of Appomattox , Elina Terushkin and Morgan A. Beaty both of Cumming, GA; seven great grandchildren, Marissa Banton, Dillon Banton, Braden Williams, Sydney Williams all of Appomattox, Elissa Peterson of Tucson, AZ, Jadon Tweedy and Haleigh Tweedy both of Appomattox; a brother, R. Dan Beaty and wife, Gem of Birmingham, AL; and brothers-in-laws, Clarence C. (Buddy) Poe and wife, Madeline of Yorktown and Dr. Richard Poe and wife, Teresa of Lynchburg.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m., Thursday, August 23, 2007, in Memorial United Methodist Church by the Rev. Daniel Dockery and the Rev. Rusty Small. Burial will follow in the Babcock Family Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at Robinson Funeral Home, Wednesday, from 7-8:30 p.m. and at other times at the residence.
